OMG....I refused to see "Sweeney Todd" on the big screen because I heard a lot about all of the blood. So we watched the DVD a couple of nights ago...my husband and my kid laughed through the whole thing while I cowered on my side of the couch half watching the movie through the space between my fingers (so I could cover my eyes really quick in case something really gory was going to happen). Mind you, this was an excellent movie. Even though Johnny Depp is not known for his singing, he had so much of his character in it that you didn't notice. The music was amazing, as was the lighting, costumes, etc. I guess that's the mark of a good movie if it moves you one way or another - even if it was really disturbing. We were eating dinner while watching it, my kid suggested that we should have eaten meat pies for dinner. I don't think so....

I kept going on about how the blood didn't look real when I watched it. Though I kinda disliked the ending it was a tragedy afterall... At least Joanna got away

Yes, luv, but Joanna was a twit. And Johnny Depp's characters have the bad habit of never noticing female lead characters in drag.
Still, the movie was truly amazing. And it's not the first time Johnny Depp sang in one of his movies. I think he did some singing in "Cry Baby" too, if I'm not mistaken. Also, it's his second movie where he played lead along with Helena, and the director was Tim Burton (Corpse Bride, Emilie and Victor). Johnny & Helena's singing was phenomenal, because the practiced a lot.
Still, if you've ever seen the actual Broadway production, you'll be severely disappointed with how much was cut out. Several songs are completely missing, and nearly every song in the movie was cut down. They even cut out the words in "Ballad of Sweeney Todd", leaving only the music in the opening sequence.
However, despite that the movie was, pardon the pun, killer. Johnny seemed to enjoy his role, and Helena loved hers to death(bad puns, I know.) Also, considering she was pregnant during the entire shooting of the film, she did great.
