www.NaNoWriMo.org" National Novel Writing Month" Basically you start at the stroke of midnight on November 1st and attempt to write a novel (50k words) in under a month. It's a huge event for the writing crowd, and while there is no prize or reward, many publishing scouts look through the entries. I tried to do it last year, but I didn't have time with all the crazy. It's a great challenge and millions of people participate each year. Last year over 15,000 people wrote over 50k words. Think of all those new books!

Wow...I've heard of this. Don't know if I'm gutsy enough to do this, but heck, it's after Halloween so I might have time.....scary!!

I know right? I thought here would be the perfect place to advertise. I'm trying to think of viable plots as we speak. Last time I got 14k words before I got stuck and ran out of time.
All sorts of people do this contest. Last year I ran into a girl who was writing a yaoi fanfic for her story. While you can't get published, it's still impressive to try and write a novel length fanfic.
(For reference, Mad-Tophat-Ter's story When the Circus Came to Town is 136k+ words.)
