Yes, even another "old" poem, in fact, it's one of my first. I've noticed that I make mention to the stars, back in Utah where I lived, you could actually see a really starry night. Even see the Milky-Way (and I don't mean the candy bar
Anyway, I wrote this when I was (cough) young.
Nocturnal SummerSensing, know, in the pale suty dusk
Street lamp trembles, stutters
Impatiently waits for darkness
Venus bids farewell to the sun
Pierces the painted sky
Signals the stars, "Come out and play"
Heat. Wet, deliriously hot and sleepy
Is chased away across the valley
Replaced by deliciously cool dark air
Blackness. Night comes to life
City light and neon, beckons, grins
Calls silently to our senses, "It's Summer"
On the boulevard, parking lot, playground park
Radio cries the melodies
That will produce sighs
When recalled in winter
Cygnus swan dives gracefully overhead
Through a faint shimmer of glowing embers
That spray into an arm
Encircling summer sky
Smiles, laughter, mischievous play
Old friends, new friends, possibilities
Absently staring up
Star studded array hypnotizes
Happy talking about everything, or nothing
Not wanting to say goodbye
Wispy airy breezes purr around us
Summer night engulfs us
Soft, warm, surrounds us as a fur blanket
Wishing upon stars for a never ending night
Until reality leads us to cricket induced sleep
Dreaming of summer night
To linger forever in our minds
